javascript - Simulate float:top with css or jquery -


i have ordered list of divs in <div id="maincontent">. want these divs float top bottom until bottom of page if possible move on column , continue. if can nothing else have items continue off bottom of page. page should allowed dynamically resized means if cut off column after resizing, it's elements should appended previous column(s).

this float:top if existed. should note using site on mobile browsers css3 out. jquery can used though. have tried masonry, doesn't enforce ordering, acts float: left, rearrange items of differing size efficiently use available space (which masonry homepage says do.

is there already? rather not have custom script if can avoid it.
