excel - Referencing cells in other sheets in the same workbook by client -


i have workbook designed keep track of client invoicing, , need know how reference cell in different sheets client. want "amount owed" specific client 1 month reflected on next month's worksheet under respective "past balance" column.

the issue positions of client change every month according clients have gained/lost placed alphabetically. means reference cell needs change accordingly. example, if yelnats, stanley in column a1, , "amount owed" may in b1, reference cell in june sheet. but, if take on picard, jean luc, stanley becomes a2. can manually change each month, there far more clients , take while.

i need know how reference cell on previous sheet when clients go out of order.

have considered vlookup function, explained here?
